The significance of ‘Happiness’ and its co-dependency with ‘Harmony’ is undeniable. There are times when we have no control of the situation and it makes us feel angry, lonely or discouraged. Happiness is one of the core principles of Pranab Mukherjee Foundation (PMF). And to drive the pursuit of happiness we conduct ‘Happiness and Emotional Wellbeing’ workshops. The intent of the workshops is to develop a healthy emotional quotient among the people with a focus on the mental wellbeing of women and children from the rural and marginalised communities. Our workshops consist of three components, viz., Emotional Wellness, Happiness and Mindfulness. Also to spread the reach to a wider audience, we train our foot-on-ground, the Local Resource Persons (LRPs).
The administration of the workshop and its content is made available in Hindi and is customised as per the local context. Along with the awareness workshops, we conduct the Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions to create a trained pool of resources in the villages. The purpose of ToT is to impart skills on (1) Identification of mental health disorders and diseases and (2) to enable the provision of Mental Health First Aid (MFHA). The trained participants primarily include teachers from government schools, parents, ASHA and Anganwadi workers who directly engage with children and the community.
